Twyford Waterworks - 2005 ........ Annual Open Day at Twyford Waterworks 2nd October 2005 There were fewer than usual Austin Sevens at Twyford Waterworks for their annual open day this year. The secretarial chariot was minus it's driver who was hors de combat, and your scribes vehicle decided not to produce electricity on the Sunday morning, despite the fact that all had been well the previous afternoon.
Solent's six vehicles, and the very splendid 1914(?)Rover which joined us It was a reasonable day weather-wise, have we not been lucky with our events this year, and those who managed it had a pleasant day. The Twyford Waterworks Trust have been fighting a battle with authority because there is a smallish amount of asbestos lagging in the building. It is the usual 'You must not have it but you must not take it away' scenario about which I will not wax lyrical at this time. Suffice to say that it is two years ago since I last saw the magnificent Hawthorn Davey Triple Expansion Steam Engine actually in steam - very sad. There was the usual goodly array of stationary engines present, whilst the model boat fraternity had a fine display of boats on their purpose made pond. The narrow gauge railway has been considerably extended since last seen. It is perhaps worthy of note for next year that there are several Theme Days during the year, including a Motorcycle Day and a Railway and Mechanical Organ Day. Spanner October 2005 | ||||
