 Another Vehicle Night - 2005 ........

Bring another vehicle to Club night

The Old Forge

13th June 2005

The back end of the thirteenth of June was a pleasant warm evening, and made all the more enjoyable at The Old Forge because a goodly number of vehicles turned up.  The purpose of the event was to look at a few interesting non-Austin Sevens for a change - very liberated bunch the Solent lot.

There is no truth whatever in the rumor that the Chairman stopped to mend a couple of potholes on the way - seriously Ray it was wonderful to see your Wallis & Stevens again, and also the David Brown Tractor.

Oh!   Forgot to say - now Ray's 'Roller' is so splendid he is going into competition with John Pike on the wedding scene

John Pike's 'Roller' stood there as magnificent as ever, and two of the members said they were going to get married just to get a ride in it.   (Pity they are both blokes - but never mind.)

The Secretary turned up in his Abingdon product, now resplendent within it's new identity.   It does seem that Swansea is helpful sometimes; what a pity they are making such a porridge over the number for the Chairman's Ruby.

Try as he might your scribe was unable to organise a couple of quick laps, to Wickham and back, by the two splendid Austin Seven specials of Frank and Peter.   At the end of the evening they both shot off up the road in a magnificant cresacendo of sound, and a lot of envy from the onlookers.

Then there was that three wheel Morgan belonging to My Friend.     Risking a heart attack at the end of the evening, he wound furiously on the  starting handle situated in the side of the little car until it burst into song.   Well, not song exactly - more a sort of machine gun noise!   Anyway, he departed for home to a round of applause.   Spanner had previously seen the car at the SHVPS rally being loaded with autojumble plunder!

It was good to see Bernard Griffiths with us for a second month; how excellent it is when old members return to the fold.   My spys tell me that his '28 Gordon England Sunshine Saloon (featured on pages 155/7 of the Source Book) has again seen the light of day after a four year lay-up, and has passed it's MOT.   Let us hope that we see it in the metal at a Club event very shortly.

The motorcycle contingent was well represented as usual - a certain lounge must have looked very bare.

r to l           Shane Burrows' Norton, Race Burrows' Sunbeam, Mike Tye's Norton, and another.

So roll on next next month when we do it all again with the Sevens.   How about trying to round up a non-member who just happens to have one stashed away in his garage.
